    3. When did Darwin start to form his ideas about evolution? The years leading up to 1844 (the same time the Millerites were active)—The Origin of Species wasn’t published until the mid-1850s, however
  2. What the Bible says about creation
    1. Genesis 1, 2 tell us that God created the earth in a week
    2. John 1:1-3—Jesus Himself (see v. 14) was the creator
    3. Psalm 33:6, 9—Once more, the Bible asserts that God is the creator
  3. What about science?
    1. It’s important that we don’t neglect science. After all, God created it, too
    2. There’s lots of evidence in favor of intelligent design

    4. Hebrews 11:3—ultimately, though, we must take God at His word by faith
  4. Implications of creation
    1. Everything has a purpose
      1. God doesn’t make junk, so it must have value
      2. We need to take care of the world around us
    2. My life has a purpose
      1. Psalm 139:13-16—God took care to create us
      2. vv. 17, 18, 23, 24—God wants a relationship with us
      3. One reason why abortion is so wrong
    3. Family has a purpose
      1. Genesis 2:20-24—God instituted marriage and the family at creation
      2. But, the state of families in America today is a disaster
      3. The Bible describes God as a Father (a family term), so He wants His people to adequately reflect the proper family image He created to avoid misrepresenting Him
    4. The Sabbath has a purpose
      1. Genesis 2:2, 3—God instituted the Sabbath at creation as a memorial of creation (4th Commandment)
      2. If God says that something is holy, then it’s holy
      3. Hebrews 4:9-11—The Sabbath applies to NT Christians, too
